Cave of Hajduk Mijat Tomic

The cave of the outlaw Mijat Tomić is located in Dugo polje, at the foot of the Vran mountain and in the immediate vicinity of the Hajdučke Vrleti restaurant. It is interesting both historically and for the fauna that lives there. It has been and remains the subject of numerous speleological research and analyses.

According to legend, Mijat Tomić stayed in these parts in the mid-17th century and marked the ancient past with his heroism and fearlessness. Legend has it that the cave has an exit to the other side of the Vran, towards Rama.

Mijat Tomić (1610-1656) is a historical figure, known as the leader of the outlaws in the Blidinje area. The outlaws fought against the Turkish authorities who persecuted them during the Ottoman Empire. They fought on the Vran and Čvrsnica mountains. Mijat’s group gathered between 30-40 brave outlaws.
