Masna Luka: The Heart of Blidinje Nature Park

Masna Luka can be described as the heart of Blidinje Nature Park. It is surrounded by the high peaks of Čvrsnica, which is why it is rich in water and natural springs. In contrast, in front of Masna Luka, there is the area of Boričevac and Badnje, intertwined with numerous dirt roads and hiking trails.
Walking through this area offers visits to diverse landscapes. Starting from the church of St. Elijah and admiring its surroundings, the walk begins with a gentle descent to the lowest points of Masna Luka, which is mostly made up of marshy areas rich in water. Right at the beginning, you come to the Jasle spring where you can replenish your water supply for the rest of the tour. Descending to the marshy area leads to a hiking trail that leads to higher parts of Čvrsnica. Alongside it, during snowmelt and after heavy rains, a sizable stream flows through meadows and forests of endemic Bosnian pine, murmuring softly with sounds always pleasing to the ear. This place will convince you that Masna Luka is more beautiful than any movie scene you have seen. Finally, you reach a lake whose water level varies depending on the season. Above the lake, there is a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the entire Masna Luka, which requires an additional half-hour of easy ascent.
On the way back to the starting point, you pass through Badnje, which means that the view of Masna Luka remains panoramic. Čvrsnica itself is even more visible, arousing in one the desire to attempt some of the more challenging hiking trails leading to that mountain. Walking past the weekend cottages in Badnje, you will surely keep your eyes on Čvrsnica and its high cliffs, and you don’t need to worry about choosing the best spot for photography because literally every meter in this area is perfect for a picture-perfect moment.
On the return journey, it is best to sit and rest at the campsite in front of the Masna Luka Mountaineering Lodge, whose thick shade provides excellent conditions for a meal.
